09/04/08 Easterfest
Phew! This year Easter came very early! It seemed like we were still just getting over our Christmas dinner, when we had to turn around and down a bunch of chocolate Easter eggs! Our Yuletide album "We Dig Christmas" was a seasonal hit, and we knew we had to follow it up with something big at Easterfest. What better way than at the grand finale Fancy Pants Ball wearing glittery gold suits, and sporting a hot, happening horn section! As always, the fancy-pantsers did not fail to impress in their highly-fashionable Lifeline attire, and we were very honoured to share the stage with none other than Isaac-the-Moody and Dave Schenk for a bit of a 10 year celebratory boogie! We also did a short set the day before in the Grand Central shopping centre where Craig managed to get his suit coat stuck on the balcony above, and stole a little kid's banana... all in the name of entertainment of course!

02/08/07 Christmas Album? Yes Please!
You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout, im telling you why - Scat is in the middle of making a Christmas album! That's right! We've been arranging and recording all our favourite yule tide carols, and even writing a few original merry melodies! (and checking them twice). There hasnt been much sleeping, we've mostly been awake, and making sure the music's sounding good for goodness sake! A good bulk of it has been recorded, but there's still lots of work ahead - full of fun and good cheer, though it feels a little odd in the middle of the year!

We're not certain on a name for the album yet, but so far we have ruled out "The seven plagues of Christmas".

09/07/07 Adventures in Bundaberg
Late June, we were in Bundy to play at a fundraising concert for the Watoto Childrens Choir. We were really touched by the testimonies of the young children in the choir – all of whom had lost one or both parents to the AIDS epidemic that continues to spread through Africa. It was encouraging to see these kids with renewed hope and joy, and we were excited to be a part of the fundraising effort. The following morning we helped them warm up for their performance at the local church, and just had to get a photo!

After that experience, we couldnt stay away from Bundy for more than a week, back again this time for a Make Poverty History concert on Bagara beach, where we shared the stage with 'Old Man River', 'Angela's Dish', and many other bands - all raising awareness of the poverty that exists in this world, and reminding governments to honour their commitments to the Millennium Development Goals, an eight-point plan for halving poverty by 2015. It was also the first time Craig and Chris have shared the same Strepsil... well, they were both already sick anyway.

13/06/07 Visionathon Operation Build
Last week we visited the studios of the Vision Radio Network and played a few live tunes as part of their 4 day 'Visionathon' appeal. Thanks to their generous listeners, they ended up raising over half a million dollars during those four days, which will go towards buying one of the buildings they currently rent, and renovating it to better suit their needs. It was great to be a part the buzzing atmosphere as people kept ringing in, making donations!

If you missed out on hearing the interview and live-in-studio performances, you can download mp3s of it right here!

25/05/07 Scat album now in Japan!
Konichiwa!
We are very excited to announce that Scat has been taken on by Vivid Sound who will now be distributing the current Scat album Living Room in Japan! Yes, Japan!
There have been some minor changes to the artwork and packaging for the Japanese market, including an added insert with translation, but the basic product remains the same. It will be very interesting to see where this may lead... perhaps we will see Craig wearing a Kimono?

My thoughts on Blackstump
by Trent Bryson-Dean
I was only at Blackstump for a little over 12 hours, but let me tell you about it...

As we drove through those legendary, dusty gates at 11am on Saturday morning, I had the urge to vomit. It was already the third time that I had done so that morning. I remember asking Jeremy to please stop the van - I wanted some stillness for this round - and he obliged me kindly, he and Chris jumping out to find our accomodation while I did the 'vomiter's jig' in the back seat with Craig's empathetic hand on my shoulder.

With our dorm found, it was straight to bed for me where I hurled consistently for the duration of my stay until taken by ambulance to Woolongong Hospital at 2:45am on Sunday morning to have my appendix removed!

I actually did get to hear some of the bands between bouts and some sounded pretty cool (although I'll never know if it was distance and the blessing of being muffled that made you sound good, whoever you were!)

I want to thank all of those people who prayed for me and about the situation in general. (It was very touching, and a little surreal, when I would happen to hear it while I was vomiting!) And thankyou to the doctors at Blackstump... I'd also like to apologise to those of you who would be talking outside my window (often about God or other deep stuff) when I would start violently vomiting. How patient you were to wait for me to finish, how kind you were to pray and how silly you were to stay there! And lastly, an honourable mention to the acting troop doing their warm-ups in the dorm hallway - that takes the cake for me when it comes to surreal experiences! Cheers.

I was lovingly spared the twelve hour drive back home by the lads, who booked me a flight back to Brisbane. I am very grateful for being saved from that agony (plus Craig's a fathead who is eccentric and stinky.)

So. Blackstump. Great festival. Wouldn't have a clue what it looked like. And I'm still looking forward to playing there!

God bless,

Trent.
